Money saving beauty hack

June 13, 2017

You know what rhymes with Monday? Wine. Its been one of those days. Nothing a (big ole) glass of wine and a fresh mani can’t turn right around. Im sharing my biggest money saving beauty hack today… its a good one.

Seriously, people ask me about this one all the time. It was sort of a happy accident that I even tried it, but now, I live by it. Its my at home gel manicure. Its just some store bought polish applied like the pros that dupes the salon gel manicure that last for weeks and for a fraction of the cost. Its all in the layering.

Disclaimer- Im sort of an Essie Polish snob. I love their brushes, packaging, color options and price point. I know there are other amazing brands out there now with their new fancy bottles, vegan ingredient lists and trendy names but the formulas never seem to out perform Essie for me.

Step 1. Pour glass of wine. (It makes your brush strokes better, I swear!)

Step 2.  Apply a good base coat. I use Essie’s Color Correcting Primer. It helps with any yellowing in the nails and also creates the perfect canvas for your mani.

Step 3. Dive right in to your color of choice. Try not to let the base coat dry and get tacky before applying the first coat of color.

Step 4. Go right in again with a second coat of your color of choice, without giving too much time in between coats, 60 seconds while your doing the previous hand is plenty of time.Color I’m using here is Color Binge.

Step 5. Most important step- Top Coat. Essie snob or not, this Gel Setter top coat is a must have. It totally replicates the look and feel of a gel mani, minus all the damage to your nails and hands. (Hello over-priced mini tanning bed for your hands/fingers)

Step 6.   Let Air dry. You know, occassionaly blow on them between sips.

There you have it. My at home gel mani. Super simple right? Not only is my Hubby super happy that Im not dropping $50 every two weeks at the nail salon anymore, but my nails are much heathier too! After doing shellac for years my nails were so brittle and sensitive and now they are healthier, brighter and much stronger than before and people are always asking me where I get them done. Secrets out- Salon de my couch.

Cheers!
