Okay, Catalina Island, you’re beautiful. I fully get the hype now. I can’t believe I have lived in California almost my entire life and had never been until now.
Such a stunning landscape, and a dreamy getaway- whether your a local So California resident or planning this trip from afar. 10/10 recommend for a relaxing girls trip or a romantic 2-night stay.
Here’s what you should know before you go…
1. The Ferry ride is no joke.
The ride over to the island from Newport Beach pier is about an hour and ten minutes long and the water can be CHOPPY. Highly recommend loading up on dramamine if you tend to get sea sick, and sit on the lower levels. Trust me.
Here’s a highlight reel on my Instagram that shows me clinging onto the boat for dear life if you need a laugh right now. 😆
Apparently we went during a “high seas” time in the season. Might want to look up water conditions before you book. 💁🏻♀️
Aside from debilitating sea sickness, the ferry was clean, the bar was nicely stocked and the staff was super friendly. The ride back is super smooth and enjoyable as well. 🙌🏼
2. Dress comfortably & in layers.
If you are going for the day you might want to wear your swimsuit and light layers that are easy to take on and off. Along the sand are the cutest shops, restaurants and bars. It was nice to stroll around town and then take a break eating ice cream in the sand.
Fav lunch spot: Bluewater Grill. The Fish Tacos & Sauv Blanc makes you forget all about the ferry ride over lol. 😅
3. Rent a golf cart and explore!
We didn’t rent a golf cart until the end of our trip and it was still well worth the effort. Even just for 1 hour. There is a well marked trail for golf carts that takes you all the way to the top of the island. Its so picturesque.
Such a fun trip with my Mom and Sister! Can’t wait to bring Coco & Sofia back with me soon. Oh and the dramamine, I won’t be forgetting the dramamine 🙂
